Why aren’t my ad extensions showing up?
When your Google Ads ad extensions are not showing, it is usually due to ad rank. Google decides with every auction whether and which extensions to display – based on your bid, Quality Score, and expected impact. Even correctly set up extensions do not automatically appear with every ad impression.
Google only displays ad extensions when the ad rank is high enough. Ad rank is calculated from your maximum CPC bid multiplied by Quality Score. If your rank falls below the required threshold, Google simply hides the extensions – without notifying you. Furthermore, multiple extension types compete with each other: Google selects the combination that is expected to achieve the best click-through rate. That is why sitelinks might appear while callout extensions are missing.
Beyond ad rank, there are technical reasons why extensions might be missing. Sitelinks get disapproved if destination URLs are identical to the ad URL. Callout extensions must not contain special characters or excessive capitalization. Location extensions only work if Google Business Profile is properly linked. Additionally, Google reviews each extension individually for policy compliance – a disapproval often affects only individual assets, not all.
Create at least 4 sitelinks with unique destination URLs each. Add 4-6 callout extensions naming specific benefits. Increase your bid or improve Quality Score to push ad rank above the threshold. Regularly check the status of each individual extension for disapprovals or limited serving.
Missing ad extensions almost always indicate an ad rank that is too low. As a Google Ads agency, we systematically optimize your Quality Score and extension strategy. Combined with SEO, you maximize visibility in both paid and organic search results.
